Heaven on earth

“…the life beyond this one is a continuation of the kinds of choices we make here and now.” -Velvet Elvis, p. 147

Is it possible to really bring heaven to this place? To what degree is this God’s desire?  Can we bring it too far?

If we are just simply waiting until the day that we can go to this place called heaven, are we more prone to allowing hell on earth: “famine, debt, oppression, loneliness, despair, death, slaughter (p.148),” both in our own lives and in the lives of our neighbors?

Longing for freedom

Some glad morning, when this life is o’er, I’ll fly away,
To a home on God’s celestial shore, I’ll fly away.

When the shadows of this life have gone, I’ll fly away.
Like a bird from these prison walls, I’ll fly, I’ll fly away.

I’ll fly away, O glory, I’ll fly away, When I die, Hallelujah bye and bye, I’ll fly away.

O, how glad and happy when we meet, I’ll fly away

No more cold iron shackles on my feet,I’ll fly away

I’ll fly away, O Glory, I’ll fly away. When I die Hallelujah bye and bye, I’ll fly away!

Just a few more weary days and then I’ll fly away.
To a land where joys shall never end I’ll fly away.

I’ll fly away, O glory, I’ll fly away, When I die, Hallelujah bye and bye, I’ll fly away…

This song gives me the same feeling as hearing young Jenny in Forest Gump pray, “Dear God, make me a bird, so I can fly, far far away.”
